With the season winding down, the abundance of storied rivalry games this week calls for a bonus game of the week. Granted the Hoosiers and the Boilermakers aren’t particularly talented teams and neither have had very successful seasons, but a win this week will at least salvage part of it. For a couple teams that first met in 1891 and have played annually since 1920 this is their national championship.
The teams battle for the Old Oaken Bucket, first introduced in 1925. The bucket itself comes from a southern Indiana farm and is rumored to have possibly been used during the Civil War. Purdue leads the trophy series 57-27-3 and the overall series 71-37-6. Who will be attaching a metal link to the bucket this year?
Don’t forget to head over to the State Traditions giveaway post and predict the score of this game and the other Midwestern rivalries to win some great gear.
