As beach weather approaches (thank you 70 degree preview yesterday), I’m reminded of how much I like versatility in my beachwear. Sure I have a few dedicated swimsuits that get used almost exclusively for the water or a quick jaunt to grab ice cream. But I really like the trend that has popped up in a recent years of hybrid shorts meant to be used both in the water and for working out. It certainly saves a bit of money when I can buy one pair of shorts instead of one for swimming and one for running.
The new Pataloha Volley Shorts from Patagonia belong to that new species of hybrid shorts. Made from partially-recycled quick-drying nylon with a durable water repellent finish, these shorts thrive in the water, whether it’s a swim or a canoe trip. The drawstring and elastic waistband also allow them to be used for out of water activities, like a lively game of volleyball and even a run. The subtle monochrome graphics of the fern print even allow them to be worn into town for a quick bite after a day in the sun. When it comes to versatility, it’s hard to top these shorts.
